'taming the colossus' London, Great Britain
For more than a decade architects, developers, and even children have fantasized about new functional uses of the Battersea Power Station. It now appears as if it was never the owners' intention to actualize any developmental scheme incorporating this original structure: they prefer instead to clear the site and to make way for new developments. To date, unrealistic architectural plans as well as extenuating circumstances have prevented any use of this site. Yet, the deteriorating condition of this historical London landmark demands that a feasible proposal must be made.
In a last attempt to make the building pay for its own preservation and future, I propose a scheme for the International Railway Terminal. Such a scheme could solve problems, the magnitude of which had never been fully realized in the past. The objectives of the various interest groups as well as the issues of finance, accesibility, and the large scale of the structure are taken into full account in this plan.
